The end of this age; end time prophecy: prophetic art by H D Johnson
"But as the days of Noah were, so shall the coming of the son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the Ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall the coming of the son of man be." Christ's discourse on the end times from Matthew 24: 3-38
The Apocalypse, or Revelation of the Bible is that Jesus is THE LORD (John 1: 1-14 ) and that he will return for the great harvest of souls at the end of this age. The Koran also names Jesus Christ as the judge at the last judgment of mankind. One popular translation of the prophecy from the original Greek to English in 1611 called it "the end of the world" instead of "the end of this age" (Matthew 24: 3-38 ) For centuries, this mistake has caused confusion between the Apocalypse & Armageddon. There are two great battles, one before the return of the king and one after that and the thousand year reign. God promised to curse the Earth no more with water but with fire this time. Many Bible prophecies seem to involve use of nuclear weapons. The prophet Zechariah and most other prophets mention war involving the nation Israel and fire raining down from the skies. After the Romans destroyed the temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. the Israelis were without a country- exiled from their homeland for almost 2,000 years. Can a nation indeed be born in a day? (Isaiah 66:8 ) It seemed impossible until the prophecy was fulfilled in 1948. |

Did you know the sacred mosque of the Muslims, "The Dome of the Rock is built directly on top of the Ancient Jewish Temple site in Jerusalem? The undying resentment of many Arabs toward the Jews for dispossessing the Palestinians makes major war seem inevitable. Zechariah 14:1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and... 2: (He) will gather all nations against Jerusalem in battle;...12: And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; their flesh shall consume away while they stand on their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. Related prophecy to the day of THE LORD in Ezekiel 38 & 39 also foretells the rebirth of Israel and what seems to be thermonuclear war , post war nuclear toxicity, the efforts to put all the skeletons under ground and collect the weapons as well as listing the EXACT confederations of nations and military powers that exist today. For instance; the land of Magog is where Noah's grandson Magog settled & is called Russia today. It also seemed impossible a generation or so ago that China would be a major superpower. |

"Fallen! Fallen! is Babylon the Great!!" "...and I saw a woman clothed in the sun with a crown of twelve stars..."
The consensus among Bible scholars has long been that the European Union will be eventually be the fourth world governing empire with roots in the Roman Empire predicted in the visions in Daniel 7 and Revelation 13. However, the ten nation group ( The 10 Horns ) that became seven just can't fit with so many nations in the E. U. I think a better thought might be the Nuclear Nations that went from ten to seven, I mean THEY are in control of the world, not the U.N. or the E. U. and the prophecy says the Roman Empire will be restored in a new form. The United States in the 21st century now resembles the world governing Roman Empire more than any government in history. When it comes to unfulfilled prophecy, no one can say for sure. Before Israel was reformed many scholars thought latter day Israel in scripture represented America - Boy, were they ever wrong! |

The Spirit of the Anti-Christ and The Mark of the Beast
Throughout history people have read the book of Revelation and tried to fathom it's mysteries. It's predictions of totalitarian world government in the spirit and pattern of Imperial Rome and Babylon the Great are yet to come true. Every generation seems to have candidates that people wonder about - like Adolph Hitler for instance. During World War Two he was marking the Jews and some Christians with a number. People said: "Oh! He's the Anti-Christ!" but the Biblical Anti-Christ will kill those without the Mark of the Beast which it says will be a number- 666...Hitler was not THE Anti-Christ with a capitol "A" but an antichrist with a small "a". Hitler declared a "New Age" in 1945 during the first television broadcast. The Book of Revelation is getting easier and easier to understand from today's headlines. ( The keys to understanding the book are given in chapter 1:19. ) |
|
"Who can make war against the Beast?" |
"Who can make war against the Beast?" A great example of prophecy in the headlines is a story in the news recently about a new microchip being implanted in pets that gives them a personal ID number that can be scanned or traced. Now this is possibly the technology that will power the Anti-Christ money system and totalitarian world government and it is here - now! Consider this classic prophecy about "The Beast ": "And he causeth all, both small and great, both rich and poor, free and bond to receive a mark in their right hand, or their foreheads: 17 And that no man can buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast : for it is the number of a man ; and his number is six hundred threescore and six." ( 666 ) ...from Revelation 13: 16- 18 Sounds like electronic funds transfer doesn't it? |

" And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the lamb ; and the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever:
and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever recieveth the mark of his name."
from the book of Revelation, 14 : 9 - 1. Read it's electrifying prophecies about the end of this age for yourself...

Revelation 17:7 "I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. 17:9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The Seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. 17:18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the Earth." |

18: 4: ... And I heard another voice from heaven saying, Come out of her my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and ye receive not of her plagues. 18:5:...For her sins have reached unto heaven and God hath remembered her iniquities. To call Rome the city of seven hills is as proper as to call her by name."the lofty city of seven hills, which governs the whole world. Propertius, Virgil, Horace, and many other pagan poets refer to it by this name alone. So if this isn't the Catholic Church this prophecy is talking about here, I ask you, What other city in history besides Rome has ever sat on seven hills and ruled over the kings of the Earth? Now, if this is so, it also stands to reason that the harlot's daughters would be the Protestant Churches...who came back to mother after a 500 year misunderstanding." *****
JUST A FEW OF THE FULFILLED PROPHECIES OF THE END OF THIS AGE: * The rebirth of the nation Israel in May 1948 * The Jew's recapture of Jerusalem in 1967 * The rise of Russia ( Magog ) as a powerful enemy of Israel. * The Arab confederation against Israel. * The rise of a military power in China that can field hundreds of Millions of soldiers. * The revival of the dark occultic practices of ancient Babylon. * The revival of the old Roman empire in the form of a multi-national confederacy. ( The E.U. ) * The unprecedented turn to drugs. * Open homosexuality as a political force. * The coming of plagues. * The increase in internal revolutions. * The increase of wars. * The increase of famines. * The increase in pollution. * The increase in earthquakes. * The increase in lawlessness. * The decline of the family unit. * The open departure of many Christian Churches policies from the Bible's teachings. * The move toward a one world government. * The move toward a one world religion. * Many of these seemed absolutely IMPOSSIBLE a generation ago... believe it - or not! "The Spirit of the Prophets at the Crucifixion" and The Resurrection of Christ" So the question remains: What shall we do to be saved? It was to Peter that this question about salvation was asked and to whom Jesus gave the keys of the kingdom to and he said: "...Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is for you , and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as our Lord our God shall call." Acts 2: 38, 39 ***** Surrealism is a literary and artistic movement launched in 1924 by the French poet Andre' Breton proclaiming the radical transformation of all existing social, scientific, and philosophical values through the total liberation of the subconscious. Salvador Dali's subconscious saw things that should be rigid were limp or melting and reflected it in his work with a sense of horror. Melting things are not always surrealistic and surrealism is potentially as vast as the human psyche. Everyone has different things enslaved in their subconscious mind. The dark horrors and delicate beauties bound in Howard David Johnson's subconscious mind find expression in his art.

"Those who are enamoured of practice without science are like a pilot who goes into a ship without rudder or compass and never has any certainty where he is going. Practice should always be based upon a sound knowledge of theory, of which perspective is the guide and gateway, and without it nothing can be done well in any kind of painting."

The various galleries linked to by the icons above show many examples of His Realistic Art, and are grouped by theme rather than media. There are also sample illustrations from his upcoming books on Celtic Myth and Legend and World Myth & Legend. Since boyhood he has passionately copied the old masters. To create his work, he usually starts with a thematic concept followed by a rough realistic pencil sketch, then followed by his photography, often traveling to find suitable scenes and locations and then working in his Photography studio with live models from his sketches. He then assembles a variety of elements which are realistic and original. As a boy he dedicated his life to art in 1960. From 1965- 1999 he used xeroxes and tracings to make his preliminary photo montages. This is patterned after the manner used by Maxfield Parrish and other 19th century notables. Beginning with a tracing, he then draws or paints from these complex original Computer Photo Montages. Many of these are on display on this web and slated for future completion in a variety of realistic traditional art media. As this happens, the finished work is substituted in the exhibit. Recently he shot hundreds of aerial photos of clouds at marvelous angles and perspectives and also looking down on the mighty mountains, rivers, and deserts of the American west while flying from Texas to Oregon and back for dynamic source material for realistic flying scenes in upcoming paintings , drawings, and pictures. |
His favourite medium for realistic art used to be colored pencil because of the high speed and low expense, and people began expressing difficulty in telling his colored pencil drawing from photographs in the early 1980's. In the last 35 plus years he has also mastered Oils, Pastels, Acrylics, Watercolors, Inks, Scratchboard, Gouache, Photography, and the highly controversial digital media ( Art Numérica ) . As a commercial illustrator Johnson has not only used the computer to create art but has been involved in the development of computer imaging software. Working in a realistic style inspired by classic illustrators HDJ is deeply rooted and grounded in the Greco-Roman artistic tradition, Feeling that with realistic art, the human form is the ultimate arena for artistic expression. His lifelong dream came true when his Traditional Realistic Art was exhibited in the British Museum in London England in 1996. His mixed media has also been displayed in numerous other ones since such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Having achieved international acclaim as a traditional visual artist he discovered digital media ( Art Numérica ) in 1999. Because of his passion for realistic art and photography he elected to embrace it and joyfully be a part of this historic era in the visual arts as a 21st century realistic visual artist. |

In addition to his mastery of traditional media, Howard David Johnson now combines drawing, painting, photography, and digital media with more than thirty years of experience in these fields to create his Realistic Art Numérica in 21st century paintings and pictures.
Did you know the Greek word "Photography" means "Painting with Light"? Today with the advent of computers it truly lives up to it's name. Due to developments in Art and Technology, a broader definition of painting is needed than that which is found in common usage.
Announcing Art Numérica -an exciting merger of traditional visual art and cutting edge technology... a new art form for the twenty- first century... Art Numérica is not limited to realistic art but also offers limitless horizons for everything from cartoons to abstractions.
It is the most dramatic development in the visual arts since the Renaissance. In the words of Al Jolson in the movie world's first talking picture" You ain't seen nothin' yet!"
Essay One: "THE MORE THINGS CHANGE, THE MORE THEY STAY THE SAME..." (A Brief essay dealing with attitudes toward Traditional Realistic Paintings, Pastels, Colored Pencils and Art Numérica ) |

Essay Two : The Rebirth of Realism
More thoughts on realistic art yesterday and today by the artist
Art History has entered a new era with the birth of Art Numérica, or digital art media in the 21st century. Artists never stop exploring with mediums. Artists have been developing techniques, experimenting with different tools since at least twenty- five thousand years ago, when the first artist picked up a charred stick and scratched a picture out on the wall of his cave. You'd think everything would have been tried by now, but it hasn't. Exploring new mediums this very day is just as exciting, just as full of freshness and newness as it ever was.
Photography, Drawing, Painting and Art Numérica combined |
The creation of Realistic art has been the goal of most artists since the dawn of civilization. Realistic art was the pride of ancient Greece. The world's greatest museums are full of realistic art. Realistic art WAS art until the advent of the abstract expressionist movement in the twentieth century. The coming of the camera in the nineteenth century changed realistic art forever. Suddenly, realistic art was not the only way to create realism in portraits and historical records. The work of the realistic artist was suddenly made into an expensive luxury. The political power of the realistic artist was broken and they were no longer an indispensable member of society. Hostility to the creators of realistic art goes back to ancient times and the jealousy of advisers to the Pharaohs and others who were not able to spend as much time with their rulers as their portraitists. Although with the aid of photographs, realistic art achieved levels of excellence undreamed of, the realistic art movement of the late nineteenth century was short. |
| None of these people earning their living creating realistic art could compete with the speed and low cost of photographic portrature. Determined to survive, great realistic artists like Pablo Picasso ingeniously turned inward and began to explore things that could not be photographed in a new school of art, abstract expressionism. The day of the fine art superstars had arrived. It was now largely just a hobby to abstract and realistic artists alike. Illustration, because of advances in printing technology enabled an elite few to earn a living with their realistic art. These illustrators working in realistic art media were condemned and ridiculed in much the same way Europe's great symphonic composers were condemned for working in motion pictures after fleeing the nazis during World War Two. The rift between realistic and abstract art grew wider and wider. The universities and key media usually sided with the abstract camp and derided anyone working in any realistic art media declaring boldly that realistic art was not "real" art. Immortal giants of realistic art such as Maxfield Parrish were mistreated their entire lives. They were accused of selling out for creating beautiful pieces of realistic fine art to earn a living. The attitude that the true artist must suffer and starve and die in poverty became a rule. There were the Abstract art superstars, the professional realistic illustrators, and the hobbyists who, although cut off from gainful employment and social influence still recognized their artistic gifts as a calling rather than a profession. | |
Early abstract art masters proved themselves as realistic artists before delving into realms of the intangible. They had to do this at that time to prove themselves because of the challenges they faced from the establishment for going against the status quo. In the latter part of the 20th century, realistic artists like HDJ were challenged to do abstract art to prove themselves as shown in the example above (Deirdre of the sorrows). Later realistic art training was abandoned in most schools and things like splattering paint in fits of rage were deemed more than enough. By the end of the 20th century something as destructive and ridiculous as nailing a pack of cigarettes to a shoe was considered fine art but not realistic paintings. Fashions in art have often been as silly as fashions in ladies hats. As the century drew to a close, many people had had enough. The realistic revolt was at hand. The rebirth of realism was fueled by the advent of the digital era. Now, for the first time in almost two centuries, an artist or illustrator could earn a decent living again with his realistic art. This is historic. Realistic art is not going to go away, especially now that photography has truly merged with traditional realistic visual art. Photography comes from the Greek words meaning "painting with light". Now with the advent of digital media the capability of realistic art has become almost limitless, truly, "painting with light". The merger of all the world's art forms to realize the potential of motion pictures has come now to still realistic art media. This website for example, combines music, prose, poetry, photography and traditional realistic art media to create an experience beyond merely looking at realistic paintings.
The twenty- first century is already seeing a new renaissance in the arts because of the world wide web. There has never been anything like it. Abstract art, computer art, photographic art, and realistic art are continuing to be separate schools of art but are also blending to create exciting new horizons. Although Digital art does offer completely new horizons to the artist in the 21st century it does not mean the end of our time honored art traditions. Instead, it offers additional ways to keep these traditions and schools of thought fresh and alive.
